Ashlee Simpson wasn't blessed with the greatest voice so it came as no shock when we saw her miming on Saturday Night Live back in 2004, though that didn't make the ridiculous fail that saw her musical career all but ended any less shocking. As she attempted to "perform" her second song of the night, Autobiography, engineers accidentally piped in the music along with her vocal line to the song "Pieces Of Me," which she'd already performed moments earlier. Unlike her band who continued with the charade, Simpson stood awkwardly and then did a few weird dance moves before running off stage. Later she explained to host Jude Law "My band started playing the wrong song... I didn't know what to do so I thought I'd do a hoe down." Nice work there, alienating your band. She wasn't the first to lip-sync and there's no way she'll be the last, but the whole issue here was her demeanour, and her attempt to pull the wool over everyone's eyes. To her credit, she did attempt to pull some credibility back by singing live during the half-time performance at the 2005 Orange Bowl in Miami in front of a crowd of 72,000, but somewhat unfortunately, her performance was so poor the crowd actually booed her afterwards and Ashlee's career as a popstar didn't look so great after that.
