15 WTF Corporate Tweets That Definitely Got Someone Fired
1. US Airways Tweets Out Pornographic Image
Here's a social media snafu so bad, the company ended up leaving Twitter entirely. There was no amount of apologizing that could undo this, and it's an absolutely legendary screwup that will live on forever.
In April 2014, the US Airways account responded to a disgruntled customer by linking her to customer service so she could provide feedback. Sounds fine, right? But instead of a link to the appropriate page, attached is a pornographic image involving a naked woman and a model plane. To make matters worse, they actually sent the image out to two separate customers.
A representative explained that they'd captured that graphic tweet to flag it as inappropriate, and someone did indeed tweet the picture at them a few hours before. Some poor US Airways employee probably copied it and then accidentally pasted the wrong link. It's an understandable mistake, but it was way too perfect of a disaster considering the involvement of the toy plane, and the Internet went nuts. It didn't help that both tweets were up for over an hour, enough time for everyone in the world to see them.
Today, the US Airways Twitter account is closed, probably because if you Google "US Airways Twitter," that image pops up hundreds of times. They will never be able to live this down.
