15 WTF Corporate Tweets That Definitely Got Someone Fired
2. KitchenAid Employee Tweets Anti-Obama Comment On Wrong Account
Either this is another example of an employee forgetting to log back in to their personal Twitter account, or this appliance company secretly really hates President Obama.
During one of the 2012 presidential debates, President Obama mentioned his late grandmother, who died in November 2008 just before he was elected. Shortly after Obama brought her up, the official Twitter account for KitchenAid tweeted, "Obamas gma even knew it was going 2 b bad! 'She died 3 days b4 he became president'. #nbcpolitics." Now we have a statement from an appliance company making fun of the president's deceased grandmother.
KitchenAid of course removed the tweet and apologized both to their followers and to President Obama, later noting than an employee had meant to post that to his personal account. "The tasteless joke in no way represents our values at KitchenAid, and that person won't be tweeting for us anymore," they said, which makes it sound like the individual somehow kept their job but simply lost Twitter privileges. That's pretty lenient, isn't it?
