15 WTF Corporate Tweets That Definitely Got Someone Fired

8. Home Depot's Incredibly Racist Tweet

It's genuinely hard to imagine what could have been going through the head of whoever sent this insane Home Depot tweet. In 2013, the chain's official account tweeted, "Which drummer is not like the others" and attached this picture, which shows three men, one of whom is wearing a gorilla costume, drumming on Home Depot buckets.

There is seemingly no way to interpret this other than that the person is comparing black people to gorillas, saying that it's hard to tell the difference between the man in the middle and the other two. What else could it possibly mean? In fact, it's so outrageous that you might assume the account was hacked, but no, this was sent from an actual Home Depot employee.

The tweet was deleted within minutes, presumably while the corporate headquarters' phones were ringing off the hook, and they said, "We have zero tolerance for anything so stupid and offensive. Deeply sorry. We have terminated agency and individual who posted it." Apparently Home Depot was using some outside advertising agency to run their account, and an employee must have been wrapping up their last day and decided to take everyone down with them.

Here's yet another Twitter lesson, then: if you're a company with hundreds of thousands of followers, you should probably know the individuals running your account.
