15 Incredible Websites That Will Rule 2014

8. Imgur

Ah, the image hosting website we love to mispronounce (it's "imager" by the way. You're welcome.) Imgur was conceived by a fellow named Alan Shaaf in 2009. He decided that the time had come for people to be able to host images online for free. On Imgur, a community of image-hungry users can post pretty much whatever they want, and its curated daily to show off the most popular pics of the day. Wondering where that hilarious photo of a stingray hugging a group of women on the beach comes from? That would be Imgur. Pretty much all of the visual hilarity that the internet provides us makes its way on this site (or originates there). Since its creation, the website has largely overshadowed other hosting sites who charge users, and websites like Reddit and Digg have greatly contributed to the fast, meteoric rise of this hosting service. Over the past few years, the site has added more great features, including a meme generator that makes it easier for you to repost the work of others. The site has become known for being the first place people go to when they want images that make them laugh, cry, or even cringe. As a result, the future looks bright for this awkwardly titled website. Why It's Going To Rule... As far as image-hosting goes, the site already has a spot at the top. But if we're talking about influence, then Imgur is poised to keep growing its already massive audience. In 2012, the site reported 300 million image uploads and 364 billion image views. Overall, that's about 42 petabytes of data that was transferred. That's a big number in case you're curious.
