Domestic cats are, as we all know, typically quite small, perhaps frail creatures. It's rather easy to spook them if you wish to do such a thing. However, that doesn't mean all cats fall into this category.

Measured on 28 August, 2010, the longest cat in the world came in at 123 centimetres (or 48.5 inches). That cat was a Maine Coon by the name of Mymains Stewart Gilligan - Stewie to his friends - and belonged to Robin Hendrickson and Erik Brandsness of Reno, Nevada before his unfortunate passing in January 2013.

Meanwhile, a Savannah cat called Arcturus Aldebaran Powers - simply Arcturus to you and I - is listed as the tallest cat, standing at a staggering 48.4 centimetres (which equates to 19.05 inches) when he's stood on his back paws. Arcturus belongs to Lauren and Will Powers of Ferndale, Michigan, who are also the proud cat parents of Cygnus, who has the record for longest tail on a domestic cat at 44.66 centimetres (17.58 inches). The Powers' have to be extra careful around their home so they don't accidentally trod on Cygnus' tail at all.

Overall, these sizes aren't the most impressive, but for your average domestic cats, they're extremely significant numbers.
