15 Mind-Blowing Pictures Of Space
12. The Carina Nebula
https://twitter.com/ObservingSpace/status/629423799021121536This pillar of interstellar gasses and dust is located 7500 light-years away in the constellation of Carina.
The image is taken in visible light by Hubble's Wide Field Camera 3 and shows the tip of the three-light-year-long pillar that is a nursery for young and forming stars.
The solar winds and powerful radiation given off by the scorching stars at the top of the image are causing the gasses and dust in the pillar to be whipped up into a frenzy and creating the perfect conditions for the birth of stars. It is also what is causing the gas and dust to stream spectacularly from the top of the pillar and off into open space.
The pillar will cook them up in its interior, possibly forming whole brand new solar systems.
