9. Everyone Hating On Mulan Because Of Her Lady Parts
Mulan's decision to save her father's life and volunteer as a soldier in the Chinese army is a complete disgrace for her family and she is living in a world where women are essentially second class citizens. Not only is her presence in the army a disgrace, but so is the cross dressing. Of course, the discovery of her vagina was inevitable and she becomes rejected for all of the wrong reasons. Yes, she lied and hid her true identity to save her father's life and make him proud, but she also proved that she was physically worthy by being the only one who was able to retrieve the flag from the tower, and she was also strong enough in hand to hand combat against her leader, Li Shang. So she's proven herself to be an exceptionally strong female as well as being a worthy male soldier. Her physical achievements and well as her loyalty as a friend are abandoned and scorned as soon as her comrades discover that she is a woman. The only person to actually treat her with some equality is her enemy, Shan Yu, who will happily kill her despite being a girl. So, does everyone reject Mulan because of her lady parts or because she lied about having them? Both. It's probably both.
