15 Surprising Hidden Meanings Behind Rude Words

4. Sh*t

What it means: Poop. Or an expression that suggests that everything has literally turned into excrement or is about to. When to use it: When you're sitting in an exam or a meeting and you get a whiff of bad eggs and your friend next to you looks at you with a smug grin, dying for your approval. "That honestly smells like sh*t mate. Have you shat your pants again? How many pairs of trousers do you go through in a week because this is getting ridiculous." Where it came from: Sh*t is one of the oldest words in the English language (apparently), derived from Germanic and Scandinavian, it's pretty much always been used to refer to poo but nowadays it has multiple meanings.
