15 Things Only People From Jersey Will Understand

1. There's Just Lots Of Old Nazi Stuff

It's just knocking around. You're having a nice relaxing walk down the beach and there's a German bunker. You walking around Noirmont and 'oh look, some lovely cannons. These were built to murder the British'. It's just all over the place. You get used to it. Possibly Jersey people helped build it to make peace with the WW2 Nazi occupying force. Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows. That was ages ago anyway. Shut up about it. The Jersey War Tunnels are a fantastically spooky example. Officially called Hohlgangsanlage 8 (and what a cuddly name that is) it was a German Underground Hospital comprising of over 1km of tunnels dug deep under Jersey hillside. For more information, watch this preposterously dramatic video: https://youtu.be/erSFjdSli5k - - - - - - - - - - - Perhaps the most troubling thing about being from Jersey is that, even though you mainlanders will never understand us or our ways, every stereotype I've ever heard about the Jersey folks is pretty much bang on. Farmers? Check, lots of those. Tax-Dodgers? Check check check. Cows, a bit backwards, ridiculously provincial? You've seen our money. Check. Lots of inbreeding? Well... look, we're getting off topic. Jersey is the jewel of the Channel Islands, Nazi knick-knacks aside. Almost entirely ringed by beautiful beaches, it's an island French enough to have nice weather, and British enough to be deeply ashamed of its past. It's a nice place, an odd place, but it's loved by its people. Jersey, mon vie.
