8. That Absolutely Nothing Gets Forgotten
The slightest political skirmish is absorbed by both communities, ruminated over, pondered and then ruminated over again. In the event of a disagreement, historical events from centuries ago are brought into the argument and cast up as if they happened two and a half minutes ago. A half-arsed battle fought in a field in some remote County Fermanagh village in 1758 is never forgotten. Ever! And it is used to fuel today's political and sectarian sentiments. All this to say Ulster folk have long, long memories.
