15 Things Only People From Northern Ireland Will Understand

9. The Rebel Songs

http://youtu.be/Mrjnygav8Do Each community has its rebel songs, and they come from a love all over Ireland - North and South - of balladry and poetry. Rebel songs are in their thousands with new ones popping up after each political calamity. Now if someone farted on the Shankhill Road or the Falls Road, a song would be written to commemorate it. The Nationalist Community have such heavyweights as 'Kevin Barry', 'A Nation Once Again' and the Unionists have 'The Sash' and 'The Ould Orange Flute'. Usually sang at parties, parades and pub lock ins, these songs are absolutely fascinating in their symbolism and history.
