15 Weird Christmas Foods You Hope You Won't See This Holiday

9. Ambrosia

This modified fruit salad is believed to have been invented in the late 19th century in America, and the original mixture was a fruit melange that consisted of oranges, coconut and pineapples. Ostensibly, regular fruit salad wasn€™t good enough, therefore, Jell-O, sour cream, mayonnaise, cream cheese and marshmallows had to be added for no fathomable reason. It could be argued that current ambrosia is less nutritious than frosting, though the use of canned mandarin oranges might tip the scales in favour of the Greek named dessert. No one knows why dairy entered this particular party: presumably to try and con kids into getting some more nutrients in one luridly coloured hit.
