14. He Won A Grammy For Best Spoken World Album In 1971... Three Years After His Death
King Jr may have been assassinated in 1968, but three years after his death he was posthumously awarded the 1971 Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album. This speech, given by King on April 30, 1967, at Riverside Church, New York, was put on to tape and it sold extremely quickly, with many supporters of the Civil Rights Movement wanting to replay his immortalised words. In fact, King's spoken-word album beat off competition from the Apollo 8, 11 and 12 astronauts and President John F Kennedy and President Richard Nixon for the Grammy - so popular was it.
