18. There Are So Many Pens

Let's start with the simple stuff: if you've never worked in a stationary store, you're never going to understand the sheer amount of different types of pens there are on offer. Like how many makes of pens there are. And how many different types of pens there are within each brand. And how many different colours and textures of pens you can choose from. While being a customer and perusing the pen aisle for a new pen to write your dissertation with might seem fun and novelty, just take a moment to spare a thought for the WHSmith employee who had to separate all those pens into their separate pen families, then find each pen family member a home, then spend hours hanging up each pen and putting each pen into a special pot and positioning all the pens into big pen pyramids and PRAYING TO GOD YOU NEVER HAVE TO SEE ANOTHER PEN FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
