18 Problems Only Tech Support Workers Will Understand

3. The True Value Of IT

The average tech support worker has to deal with poor systems, a technologically illiterate public, poorly trained staff and IT directors who would rather spend money on iPads that have no real use than upgrading said poor systems. They know all too well what technology exists in Linux, server 2012 R2 and any number of cloud hosting systems and how it could make everyone€™s jobs easier. Techies are probably uniquely placed because they genuinely get excited about new technologies or new database methodologies, they can see how small improvements and investment in IT can make a business run more smoothly and cut down the time they spend dealing with nonsense tickets. In the excellent and hilarious €œSilicon Valley€ they make fun of the €œmaking the world a better place€ claim of every new photo sharing app that comes along but the reality is that the technology exists for us to be really living in the future we thought we would be when we watched the Jetsons. But the execs wants iPads so, there you go.

I.T. Consultant, technophile and Doctor Who fan. I like to talk about tech, take films apart and make excuses for Doctor Who's continuity errors. No other show has the power to make me feel like a big kid.
