18 Problems Only Tech Support Workers Will Understand

16. How To Fix A Problem

Some blame the Windows 8 confusion on Microsoft but realistically people have no idea what they're doing with computers. That's why iPads are so popular, even an orangutan can work one. But if something involves engaging your brain and actually thinking about what you're doing, no chance. So when that message comes up on the screen telling you there's been an error, any techie knows the first port of call is event viewer and/or Google (or Bing if you're feeling adventurous). We techies don't know everything, despite what users and family think, although we do like to keep the myth going. If your Google-Fu is strong though, you can solve just about any problem. Techies and tech support workers are methodical. We work through problems step-by-step and don't go rushing off in other directions like devs are wont to do. We are the ones who write down the steps of what we're going to do before we do them and we always, ALWAYS test.

I.T. Consultant, technophile and Doctor Who fan. I like to talk about tech, take films apart and make excuses for Doctor Who's continuity errors. No other show has the power to make me feel like a big kid.
