18 Problems Only Recruitment Workers Understand

18. The Inconvenience Of Lying

Those who work on the headhunting side - or executive research side - of recruiting will know that they often have to tell white lies to obtain the information they need. That isn't something anyone likes to do, but it has to be done. If you're looking for someone to fill a role for one of your clients, and that person needs to have certain traits, you will phone around companies who are likely to have that kind of person working within them and use porky pies to find out who those people might be. For example, if you're looking for an area manager in the construction industry, you might have to pretend to be phoning from the Construction Industry Council and are simply wanting to update your records. When the person on the other end of the line gives you the information you need - voila! You have the name you need to ask for when you make the next call a few hours later to make your approach.
