8. 'Helpful' Suggestions
Helpful suggestions are just the best right? Like, the best thing ever? We jest, of course, but there's a limit when it comes to those oh-so-helpful suggestions that come in flooding in to your inbox, phone, or even in your face to face conversations with people. There's plenty of stuff out there may well be worth your individual time - after all, everyone is unique and has their own journey of work to go on. However, a lot of the stuff people try to sell you on isn't actually that helpful. Trying to 'look harder' isn't so much a helpful suggestion, as it is a painful reminder of how you've effectively failed to get a job right this very second. It's not the worst problem in the world, we admit, but it's still not an enjoyable experience, turning down peoples' suggestions and making them feel like you're being ungrateful. People who offer advice? We love you. Please keep doing it, but have a little discretion, and think about what we might like doing before you send us every newsletter, email, and volunteering website URL you can find. Deal?
