20 Facts That Sound Like Bullsh*t But Are Totally True

3. An Octopus Has Three Hearts

Enter, the octopus. Bow down at it's honorary intelligence; it's mind-bending anatomy; it's ability to predict World Cup results. There's a sea full of cool octopus facts you won't believe until Google-god confirms it. But hear this, fishy friends, an octopus really does have; not one, not two, but THREE hearts. One main heart, called the systemic heart, and two smaller ones near it's gills. The smaller hearts work in the same way as the right side our own hearts, exchanging carbon dioxide for oxygen and then pumping replenished blood to the systemic heart. Then, just like the left side of a human heart, the systemic heart propels the fresh oxygenated blood through the octo-body. Oh, and if that wasn't cool enough, their blood isn't red like us humans, it's filled with a copper-rich protein called hemocyanin instead of our reddish hemoglobin: as a result, octopus blood is blue! Hands (or tentacles) down, octopuses are the most brain-boggling creatures on this planet today, so much so, in Hawaii they are said to be lone survivors of the alien universe. God they are good, aren't they?
