Sadly, true. It's widely assumed to think of slavery as a thing of the past - but there are, shockingly, a massive 27 million people bought, sold, and forced to work in the world today. Ship records show this is more than double the number believed to have been taken from Africa during the transatlantic slave trade. With huge population growth, poverty and corrupt governments, the figures are at tipping point.
