20 Greatest Roller Coasters In England

1. Nemesis - Alton Towers

Opened: 1994

Manufacturer: B&M

Type: Inverted Coaster

Well, could it really have been anything else?

There is a very, very good reason why Nemesis is by far the UK's best-performing roller coaster in amusement park awards and rankings. Thanks to its ridiculously intense layout, blazing speeds and heart-pounding inversions, Nemesis is just unreal and pretty much the most thrilling, adrenaline-pumping and terrifying roller coaster in the UK.

A sign outside the ride says that it's the world's most intense ride experience and while that's a huge statement on a subjective matter, that isn't actually as hyperbolic as it sounds. This is an insanely powerful ride which seems to have been built to be the most frightening, punchy ride imaginable and the layout's constant proximity to the terrain and landscape only makes this even more brutal (in a good way).

Truly Nemesis is something else. Even after over 25 years and even after the arrival of coasters like Stealth, Icon and Smiler, Nemesis is still the crown jewel in the UK's fantastic coaster line-up and it's hard to imagine it being de-throned anytime soon, if ever.
