20 Jaw-Droppingly Weird Laws That Still Exist In America
12. Maryland - You Cannot Accompany Lions To Movie Theatres
Law's Origin: Unknown
Risk of Prosecution: A crowd of terrified, screaming movie goers coming to get you
This one actually makes a lot of sense, and for the first time on this list it sounds like someone with half of a rational brain was drafting this law.
The scary part about this is not that the law exists: it's more disturbing to contemplate why it was enacted in the first place.
While further research didn't turn up anything regarding people taking lions to movie theaters, it is rumored that one of MGM's lions (seen roaring at the beginning of their movies) attacked and killed its trainer during a photo shoot. And strictly speaking, you probably don't need too much evidence to suggest that having an animal at the top of the food chain in an enclosed space with tasty humans is not a good idea.
Our Rating: Pretty good, actually.
