A lot of the myths and legends about America's first president are absolute hogwash. He absolutely did not have wooden teeth, for example, his dentures instead being made out of made out of varying combinations of rare hippopotamus ivory, human teeth and metal fasteners. Not only that, but Washington's war record isn't quite as rosy as it's sometimes made out. In fact, he was fairly useless on the battlefield. Strategically he was a complete novice, losing every major fight that he was involved with, usually deciding to just go ahead and retreat with his tail between his legs. His history of being terrible at war stretched all the way back to this pre-revolutionary war days, in fact.
