George McGovern was the Democratic nominee for the 1972 presidential election when he lost to Richard Nixon in one of the biggest landslides in American electoral history - and Clinton worked on his campaign. Clinton moved to Dallas and took up the role of coordinator for McGovern, with future film director Steven Spielberg also among the campaign staff.
