17. Clinton's Presidential Pet At The White House Was A Cat Named "Socks"... Who He Was Allergic To
Adopted stray "Socks" was the presidential cat during Clinton's tenure in the White House. She was first adopted by the family in 1991 after she jumped into the arms of Bill's daughter, Chelsea Clinton, as she was leaving the house of her piano teacher in Little Rock, Arkansas. Socks then moved into the White House once Clinton took up residence in the Oval Office - although it is believed the President was allergic to the cat. After Clinton left office, Socks moved in with his former secretary Betty Currie (pictured above, left) and her husband due to the fact the former President now had a dog named Buddy. When describing relations between the cat and dog, Clinton said: "I did better with... the Palestinians and the Israelis than I've done with Socks and Buddy." Unfortunately, Socks died in Hollywood, Maryland, on February 20, 2009, at the age of 19.
