19. He Was Served His Last Rites Three Times Before Becoming President
A devout Catholic - the first to be elected President - Kennedy was read his sacramental last rites four times, including three before assuming office. JFK suffered from terrible illnesses as a child, including Addison's disease which is a rare disorder of the adrenal glands, and he was first read the last rites in 1947. They were again read to him in 1951 after he came down with an extremely high fever, while the third occasion was after he slipped into a coma following surgery during which he contracted as infection. Finally, Kennedy was also served the last rites following his assassination in November 1963.
