Almost every single iconic image of Thatcher in office shows her standing with her handbag (like the one above) - something she kept on her person at all times and ensured was in peak condition. So attached to her handbag was she in fact that Thatcher one responded to a question by saying that it was "the only safe place in Downing Street".
