One song that nobody predicted would be in the charts in April 2013 was "Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead" - but Ella Fitzgerald's 1961 version of the tune from The Wizard of Oz actually reached a high of number two. The reason this song was in the UK Singles Chart was because Thatcher had died on April 8, 2013, and anti-Thatcher sentiment prompted campaign on social media to bring Ella Fitzgerald's version to the top of the charts. Many people, particularly former working-class families who lost their jobs during Thatcher's reign as Prime Minister, hated the former Conservative leader and so rejoiced in her death - but the BBC announced that it would not play the full track on Radio 1 during The Official Chart, instead carrying just a short clip.
