12. Since 2009 Pepsi Has Marketed Itself As "Pecsi" In Argentina... Due To The Fact Its Name Gets Mispronounced In South America

Due to the fact that the Argentine-Spanish accent tended to lead to people from South America pronouncing Pepsi as "Pecsi", the company decided to rebrand the product as such in 2009. In what is believed to be the first time a global brand has ever altered its name in order to suit regional variations in pronunciation, Pepsi became "Pecsi" in Argentina in 2009 - and has remained so ever since.

Tapping into local phonetics and dialects appears to have worked for Pepsi - sorry, Pecsi - because sales have increased since the name change. As a result, it was also introduced into Mexico in 2011 under the altered brand name.
