20. He Wrote The First "Your Mum" Joke
Probably the greatest of all Shakespeare facts. In Titus Andronicus, a character named Aaron has a child with a woman named Tamora. He is later approached by her sons, Demetrius and Chiron, and they have the following, amazing exchange: Demetrius: Villain, what hast thou done? Aaron: That which thou canst not undo. Chiron: Thou hast undone our mother. Aaron: Villain, I have done thy mother. You can almost hear the cheering from the rest of the squad. Aarons line means exactly what it sounds like; he has done their mother in the most modern sense. Shakespeares surprisingly full of bawdy toilet humour, mostly odd references to secret parts and country matters. But this one is not only pretty well-constructed, but has left a lasting legacy. So immature children can now use the excuse that theyre honouring Shakespeare, and teachers will have to suck it up and take it. Just like your mum does.
