No-one actually knows what Shakespeare was up to between the years of 1585 and 1592. Its fairly certain that he wrote his first play in 1590, but theres no evidence of how he made it from Stratford to London or how he started his writing career. Its probable that he worked in Stratford to provide for his young family, as twins Hamnet and Judith were born in 1585, following on from Susanna in 1583. But this is just guesswork. Some scholars think he travelled Europe, due to the knowledge exhibited in his early plays. He would have to have been back by 1589, when he was mentioned in a legal action. This has led some to seriously speculate that he embarked on a seven year crime spree before being forced to flee to the capital. The bottom line is that even the most ardent Shakespeare scholars have no idea about the formative years of his career. For all they know, he could have been fallen in nuclear waste or been bitten by a radioactive playwright.
