20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Apple

15. iPhones Are Twice The Price In Brazil

Basically everything, anyway. And that's not an exaggeration, the iPhone literally costs twice as much to buy in Brazil as it does anywhere else in the world. And it's all legit, these aren't iPhones being smuggled into the country and sold at a premium or anything like that. It's simply a symptom of the trouble Apple have had in getting their products on sale in the country. It was only in 2013 that they won a copyright case that was previously blocking them from selling the iPhone in South America. In February of last year they opened their first store and began selling the iPhone 5S there for 2,799 Brazilian reais €“ which translates roughly into $1,174 or £786. If you thought the price of that gold Apple Watch was ridiculous, well... ...You're right, but this is more ridiculous. Basically it's down to a combination of the high taxes paid by Brazilians, 60% flat import tax on most manufactured retail goods brought into the country, and the labour laws which make it hard for Apple to use employees quite as €œefficiently€ as they might want.
