3. Taking This Short Cut... Alone... At Night
In addition to the quaint old architecture and a mixture of modern buildings of variable quality that Derby has to offer there's a reasonable share of run-down, dilapidated buildings too. One which residents of Derby can't fail to have missed is the old abandoned train yard near Friar Gate. Urban explorers have often braved the collapsing interior while far more people have taken advantage of the shortcut leading between Great Northern Road and Ashbourne Road. Nip through this shortcut during the day and you can take in the sometimes impressive grafitti, but go this way alone at night at your peril. If there's a shortcut in Derby that attracts more nocturnal weirdos than anyone else, this is it.
