8. GCSE Welsh Is Compulsory - Just Never Leave Wales

As mentioned above, Welsh is only spoken in Wales and Patagonia. Living here, it can be a useful knowledge to have. Many administration jobs pay higher for bilingual staff so there can be a financial benefit to knowing the linguo. But there is also a downside if you are a GCSE student too.

Welsh GCSE is compulsory, meaning that you have to take it even if you never plan to use it or are planning to leave Wales for the bright lights of London in later life. It also means that unless you take on extra GCSE's and put extra pressure on yourself you have to give up a subject you might otherwise have picked, thus limiting your later choices in life. Surely by the time you come to taking your GCSE's this subject should be optional?
