2. 5p For A Plastic Bag - And It's Not For Life...

Its great for the environment but not some much our wallets. A few years ago Wales introduced a 5p change for plastic bags, meaning that if you pop into Tesco for a bit of shopping after work, you'll have to pay an extra 15p for flimsy bags with handles that will snap the moment you lift out the carrier with the bottle of milk. Some places might offer 'bags for life' (these cost 10p) but they'll only get you through three shops before ripping, causing your shopping to fall into the street.

Its the same for all shops, not just supermarkets. Which surely means less advertising for places like Next, Topshop or HMV if shoppers are reusing their Tesco and Asda carriers walking down Cardiff Queen Street on a Saturday afternoon. That's assuming you remember to take bags out with you. Otherwise you'd better set aside a budget for every shopping trip you make...
