To Cardiff now and the mighty Millennium Stadium, a landmark that has attracted thousands to the city. The trouble is, that for all the city's developments, it isn't that big and unlike the stadiums in other cities, when there is an event at the Millennium Stadium, the city comes to a grinding halt.

Take recent music concerts by Take That or - shudder - One Direction at the stadium. When they took place, buses were diverted, roads closed off and Cardiff virtually shut down. Worse still are match days that attract not only visitors to the stadium but thousands more to every pub in the city to watch the match and celebrate.  Cardiff literally shuts down.

Worse still is the devastation. After a match day the streets are filled with rubbish; it is almost post-apocalyptic in nature. Abandoned walkways, chip wrappers blowing in the wind. The clean-up operations must be immense... and there goes Cardiff Council's money...
