20 Problems Only People From Southampton Will Understand

12. Learning More About The Titanic Than James Cameron Ever Did

The most famous ship in history left on its ill-fated maiden voyage from Southampton in April 1912. There's not much else famous about Southampton (well, the Mayflower left from here too, on its way to the New World with the Pilgrims) apart from Craig David, so understandably, every primary school teacher in the greater Southampton area has milked the Titanic for projects and dioramas for the last century or so. As a consequence, if we hear the word 'Titanic', we glaze over and pass out through sheer boredom in a kind of Pavlovian reaction. Every kid raised in Southampton since the Great War knows enough about the Titanic to build a lifesize working model of the ship out of lolly sticks. No word of a lie.
