1. Having Such Great Pride In Something So Modest
Sunderland's not the biggest city. It doesn't have a lot of wonderful architecture, or vast futuristic buildings. Even after 20 years of development huge areas of the city are still run down, and a lot of those that aren't are badly due a new lick of paint. To most people it doesn't look like much and, in your heart of hearts, you sort of understand why. But that changes nothing. Sunderland is still your home and you couldn't be prouder to call it that. Aye, it might not be everyone's cup of tea but just look at all the art, science, culture and innovation it's managed to give the world. It doesn't need any glitz or glamour because it's got some of the canniest people living in one of the most picturesque corners of the globe.
