https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OuGD0vpW5Y Smeato, famous for his intervention during a terrorist attack on Glasgow Airport in 2007, will go down in Scottish legend as the man who took down one of the would-be attackers with a swift kick in the knackers. His actions inspired a great many Scots to step up and face down lawbreakers and earned him a gallantry medal from the Queen herself. Of course, his inspirational act isn't what he's most remembered for. It's his inimitable Glaswegian understatement. Having just taken down a flaming (literally) terrorist, Smeaton told BBC News:
"I thought, 'That's not right,' and ran over to assist the policeman... all that was going through my mind was I've got to help the policeman, I'm not letting these guys get away with this."
He also gave a warning to terrorists at home...
"Glasgow doesn't accept this... This is Glasgow; we'll set about ye."
...and across the world:
"If any more extremists are still wanting to rise up and start trouble, know this: Well rise right back up against you. New York, Madrid, London, Paisley... were all in this together and make no mistake, none of us will hold back from putting the boot in."
