20 Things All Cardiff University Students Will Understand
20. The Sheer Rush Of Crossing The Severn Bridge
The signs are utterly indecipherable. Paying the toll to get into the country after already racking up thousands of pounds of student fees feels like salt in the wound. The skies behind you are solid blue, while the other end of the bridge is hidden behind a solid curtain of rain. And you've never been happier. As a significant number of Cardiff students come from outside Wales, crossing the Severn Bridge is part of a yearly ritual. The first time, you find yourself eyeing up other cars, particularly those with a lot of bin liners in the back, wondering if they're heading to Cardiff Uni, too. Subsequent visits are taken up with planning the first big night out of the year, debating the merits of Clwb or Revs with your friends while your parents tell you this is the time to start buckling down and do some real work. Of course, the return journey is absolutely soul destroying. But you'll probably be too hungover to notice.
With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
