20 Things You Didn't Know About Coca-Cola

4. The Company Is Not Great With Unions

There are a whole lot of issues involved with Coca-Cola factory workers, besides the segregation Martin Luther King wished to protest. One particularly bloody thorn in the company's side which has been raging since the seventies are the ongoing bottle plant murders in Guatemala and Colombia, as union-affiliated employees working at Coke factories keeping mysteriously turning up dead, and the company does basically nothing about it besides try and sweep the stories under the rug.

3. They Were Accused Of Bribing Dentists

That's right. In 2003 Coca-Cola donated $1 million to the American Academy Of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD). That same year said Academy came out saying Coke wasn't bad for children's teeth, undoing decades of actual evidence and advice, leading to accusations that Coca-Cola had bribed them to say that. You can see why they would, too, since right now Americans ingest roughly 1.7 million tons (or 10.8 pounds per person) of sugar each year from Coca-Cola alone. Yeesh.
