11. The Overtoun Bridge - Scotland
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ysvn2JDzVw8 It's not uncommon to hear of people jumping to their deaths from bridges, but it's pretty rare to find out that not one or ten but over 600 dogs have jumped from the Overtoun Bridge in Dumbarton, Scotland to their deaths in the freezing water below. Fortunately many of the dogs survived the fall, but others weren't so lucky and either died at the spot or had to be put down later as a result of their injuries. As if that wasn't strange enough, it seems that no one has the faintest idea as to why our canine friends are doing this. All kinds of theories have been tossed around with some suggesting that the bridge is haunted, due to it being the same location where a man threw his baby son over the bridge and then attempted to kill himself, whereas others have suggested that the large amount of mink in the area may be to blame as they are attracting the dogs into the water. In spite of numerous investigations to figure out the cause of this strange animal behaviour, it seems that no one is any closer to finding out the truth, other than an unusual finding by one scientist, who worked out that most dogs that cross the bridge do not seem to act any differently until they reach the final two parapets on the right-hand side. Regardless of the real reason, many dog owners have taken to avoiding it at all costs because who knows what is really lurking around the bridge that has made so many dogs throw themselves onto the rocks below?
