3. Old Jewish Cemetery - Prague
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM1Y4akYWTk Even at first glance, this does not look like an ordinary cemetery. The Old Jewish Cemetery is located in the Jewish quarter of Prague, in the Czech republic and some historians have suggested that it may be over fifteen thousands years old but there is another reason that makes this cemetery so bizarre. The strange thing about this graveyard is that no one knows how many people are buried there due to there being layers and layers of tombs. It is thought that there are approximately 12,000 tombstones that can be seen above ground, but that there may be up 100,000 burials in the cemetery. The reason for this is that it is widely believed in Jewish culture that Jews must never destroy their graves for any reason, therefore when the cemetery ran out of space there was no other possibility than to just bury more people on top of the original bodies, and it is now estimated that there are 12 layers of graves in the cemetery. What makes this particular cemetery even stranger is the belief that this was allegedly the venue where conspiracy meetings where held in order to create The Protocols of the Elders of Zion (a hoax text which purported a Jewish plan for world domination). Certainly not your average graveyard.
