9. Console Wars Step Up A Notch

2013 was the year that Sony released their Playstation 4 and Microsoft released the Xbox One, making it a very Merry Christmas for gamers everywhere. In other technology news, Apple launched the new iPhone 5S and 5C, and their new operating system iOS7 begun impressing and confusing users in equal parts, as it trended around the world, and scientists created
the world's first lab burger, a burger genetically engineered from cow cells. And on the theme of food, George Osbourne was accused of eating "a posh burger" when he tweeted himself having a snack earlier this year.
8. Beyonce Releases Her Self-titled Album

Another artist that seemed to appear out of nowhere in 2013 was Beyonce, who returned with a self-titled "visual album", ready and available to download, smashing iTunes records everywhere. She's been touring most of 2013, and looks set to do so again in 2014, selling out her UK dates and possibly doing the festival circuit this summer. Husband Jay-Z also returned with 'Magna Carta Holy Grail', which went platinum overnight thanks to a deal where Samsung bought all the copies for their phones. Which is cheating really, isn't it? Fellow pond-side hip-hopper Drake also had a good 2013, releasing 'Nothing Was the Same' to widespread acclaim.
