23 Things Only A Chocolate Shop Employee Will Understand

18. The Double-Edged Sword Of Special Offers

Offers fall into two categories; those you know about, and those you don't.

In the case of the former, expect to run out of whatever promotional bar or box is being advertised after the first morning. With everyone who has ever set foot in the shop receiving a voucher for said item, this will inevitably lead to dozens of dissatisfied customers. This is of course your fault, personally, and you can expect outrage from the people who aren't getting something they didn't pay for, and who had no intention of buying anything else, anyway.

In the second instance, you'll be confronted by a customer waving a flyer or, more often, a smartphone in your face which, once you actually manage to get out of their hands and read, you have never seen or heard of before. Inevitably, the customer will take it as a personal affront when you want to check the promotion with the manager.

Either the manager will know about the promotion, and simply didn't tell you, or he didn't, and will be equally baffled by it. Either way, again this is somehow your fault.

Oh, and regardless of what happens, at least one person will express dissatisfaction that the free product isn't larger, or that they can't just help themselves to whatever they want from the store.

With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
