24 Problems Only People From Newton Aycliffe Will Understand

9. Being Seen Going Into "Bob's Bargains" Or "Winners" As A Child

It's obviously a very childish trait as, when you grow up, you come to realise that a shop is a shop, but Aycliffe often has at least one store that gets a reputation as being a bit cheap and, for want of a better word.... naff. In the 1990s, those shops were called "Bob's Bargains" (later "Aladdin's Cave") and "Winners" and if you were dragged in there by your parents - perhaps because they simply wanted a roll of tin foil or some bleach, for example - you would literally try to hide your face in case someone from school saw you.
