25 Mind-Blowing Facts About Kim Jong-Un

7. There Is A 550m-Long Message Praising Kim Jong Un Carved Into A Hillside

"Long Live General, the Shining Sun!" This is the translation of the huge message carved into the hillside in North Korea praising Kim Jong-un. The 15-character message, at 550metres, stretches further than the length of five football pitches and was inscribed in 2012 - just a year after Kim Jong-un assumed office from his father.

There is also a massive sign that reads "Long live Kim Jong-il General, the sun of the 21st Century" on the banks of the Yalu River. Well, at least the whole family gets remembered with huge writing.

Kim Jong-un is North Korea's Supreme Leader, but his father Kim Jong-il was announced as the country's "Eternal General Secretary" following his death in 2011. Somewhat confusingly though, the founder of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Il-sung remains the nation's "Eternal President".

Kim Il-sung did rule North Korea between 1948 and 1994 - yet due to the bizarre and seemingly arbitrary nature of the country's constitution, Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un is technically subordinate to his grandfather who has been dead for decades.

As of yet, Kim Jong-un hasn't been overruled by Kim Il-sung though...
