17. Sepp In (Another) Scandal
After years of allegations relating to corrupt practices throughout the ranks of FIFA, 2015 saw the whole organisation investigated by the US Government. A number of top-level executives were arrested for an array of fraud offences, which among other things involved the receiving of bribes in the course of previous World Cup campaigns. In September FIFA President Sepp Blatter had criminal proceedings started against him by the Swiss Attorney General. He, along with other FIFA officials, was initially suspended from the organisation, and in December Mr Blatter was later banned by FIFAs independent ethics committee from taking part in any FIFA activities for the next 8 years. A new presidential election is due to take place 26th February, with 5 possible candidates in the running.
