5 Animated Short Films That Will Leave You Speechless

3. Opal Waltz - Supernaive - Vincent Tsui

Opal Waltz
Vincent Tsui

SuperNaive is perfect in its delivery. The honesty in which it presents its themes of fragile emotions and dealing with the pressure that society and ourselves put on them is spot on. The music performed by Opal Waltz is paired so well with these visuals, depicted a series of people engaging with balloons in different ways.

The music contains a repeating sharp stop which makes the listener imagine someone short of breath or struggling to breathe, which ties in beautifully with the concept of the balloons. It’s a beautiful piece as well, drawing from a pastel colour palette which complements the simplicity of its message. The line work is charming as well, with figures moving with large amounts of detail despite their cartoony appearance.

This is a piece that will move and entertain in equal measure.
